Nominate

Nomination form below. Please read the guidelines before nominating.

Who can I nominate?
Who is your unsung hero or heroine? Who do you think is so inspiring they deserve to be recognized by the Haliwards? We are looking to find the stars of HRM – they can be any age, from any walk of life and from any part of the Halifax Regional Municipality, but, they must be extraordinary. Nominations are not limited to individuals. You can nominate groups, organisations and businesses. It doesn’t even have to be a human being.. I’m not joking —did you not watch Lassie as a kid?!

Who may make a nomination?
Anyone in Halifax Regional Municipality may make a nomination. Nominations are not limited to residents only. National and worldwide organisations that have offices within HRM are also eligible to make nominations. If the nomination comes from an IP outside of HRM it will be automatically rejected and not included in the final list.

How many nominations can I make?
As many as you like.

How do I make a nomination?
Making a nomination is extremely simple. Just fill out the form below. Try to give as much information as you can to help us with our decision. If we feel we don’t have enough information to go on, we will contact you and request more information. Once you hit the submit button we have it safe in our database!

Can I make an anonymous nomination?
Yes and no. When you make a nomination we need to know your name in order to prevent self-nominations. If, however, you don’t wish the person to know that you nominated them, we will respectfully keep your identity a secret. These awards will indicate an anonymous nomination. Past experience is that some people are reluctant to accept anonymous awards, so only keep it a secret if it’s absolutely necessary.

What happens with my nomination?
Firstly the nomination will arrive in our database. It will stay there until nominations close. Nominations will then be checked for authenticity. Once we have removed the nominations that are fake and lacking on information we pass the remaining on to our board of local directors. The directors will discuss each nomination individually. The nominations that stand out the most will be our award winners for 2011. The whole process can take months.

Who sits on the board?
The board is made up of local volunteers that were handpicked for their skills. Some have worked on the Haliwards before, some are completely new, some are past award winners —but they have one thing in common. They are passionate about their community.

How long do I have to nominate?
Nominations are open from May 1st to January 1st. It is a common occurrence for us to extend the deadline but it is not guaranteed so why leave it to chance? It doesn’t matter if you send your nomination in tomorrow or 3 months from now, we treat them all the same.

Will you tell me if my nomination is successful?
Yes, if it’s successful we will notify you. Sadly due to the overwhelming numbers of nominations we receive we cannot contact those who were unsuccessful.

How will the awards be presented?
The awards will be presented in a finally tuned awards ceremony in early 2011. It will be an evening to remember. A night to give thanks to a select group or locals for the extraordinary things they have achieved. Mix that in with local entertainment and some refreshments and you got yourself a Haliwards Ceremony!
